NEMS Starts Off 2011 Tri Season With 2 Members Getting on the Podium at New England Season Opener!

On Sunday, May 9th, 5 NEMS members raced in the New England Season Opener Sprint Triathlon in Hopkinton, MA. The conditions were great (much better than the year before) and NEMS would like to congratulate Nate Thomas and Andrew Levine for finishing on the podium. Nate had a great race and finished 1st in his age group and 6th overall. Andrew finished 11th overall and 3rd in his age group. Colin Cook had a disappointing race which included a flat tire on the bike. Despite the mechanical issue, Colin still finished 5th in age group and 25th overall. Chad Quinlan had a tough start to his day with a sub par swim, but still finished a very respectable 11th in his age group and 62nd overall. Rob Kosman also represented NEMS well by finishing 17th in his age group and 162nd overall. His an image of the guys before the race and some video from the race:

NEMS Does First Open Water Swim of the Year

On Saturday, May 7th, 6 brave NEMS members did an open water swim at Silver Lake in Hollis, NH. Despite Silver Lake being one of the quicker lakes to warm up in the area, the water was still pretty chilly. Nonetheless, everyone got a great swim in. Here is some video:

More team open water swims coming soon!

NEMS Krancs the Kanc

On Saturday, 4/30/11, 13 NEMS members met to do a workout on the Kangamanus highway, which goes from Lincoln to Conway, NH. The route includes some incredible views and a total ascent of over 2300 feet each way. 3 members of the club did the “short course” ride which was around 25 miles and 9 members did the “long course” ride, which was around 65 miles, followed by a 30-45 minute run. Despite the cold start, the weather was incredible and everyone appeared to have really enjoyed themselves. Warren Jackson brought his 13 year old son Cameron who did the longer ride. Way to go Cameron!

Thanks to everyone that came! We’re looking forward to doing more events like this very soon!

We are very proud to have received 2nd place overall in the team competition. For more details about the results, click here. This worked out great because we received a $100 gift certificate from Champion Systems, which was just in time for our order of gear from them. Way to go everyone!

Besides the team competition, the MultiSport World Conference & Expo was a great event and it was terrific to see so many members of NEMS there. Some members took advantage of some of the great clinics they offered throughout the day and some attended some of seminars. The event also featured guest speaker Dave Scott, 6x Ironman World Champion, which a lot of NEMS members stuck around for.

Big Turnout for March Meeting and Swim Filming with Bill Steele

On Thursday, March 3, the club got together for their monthly meeting as well as some swim filming with USAT and USA Swimming coach Bill Steele at the Nashua YMCA.  There were around 30 members in attendance and it was great to see so many triathletes in the pool.  The footage will be provided to everyone shortly, but here is some footage that Jan and Colin took throughout the evening.

Thanks so much to everyone that came to this group event. We hope that everyone had fun and will find this helpful. We will be emailing out more information about your footage asap. Thank you very much to Bill Steele for offering his services to us!

Swim Video Analysis on March 3 for all NEMS Members

Hi NEMS Members,

Just wanted to give an update to everyone about a couple things going on over the next few weeks.

First off, I’m very excited to announce that Bill Steele will be filming us on Thursday, March 3, from 8:30-9:30pm at the Nashua YMCA Pool. He has a 4 camera system that should do an outstanding job of providing all the angles required to properly analyze your swim technique. Bill will be providing this great service to the club at no charge and we are very lucky to have him offer us his services. Everyone in the club is welcome to come and I hope everyone will be taking advantage of this great opportunity.

In collaboration of Bill coming to film us, we will be also been having a club meeting Thursday, March 3rd as well. The meeting will begin at 7:30 and we should be in the same room we had for the last meeting. We will end the meeting at 8:15 so everyone can get their suits on and head over to the pool. Please note that if you are not a YMCA member, you will need to fill out a release form before entering the pool. Please make sure you do so before heading to the pool.

We would like to get a general idea of how many people are planning to join us in the pool for the video analysis. If you could please email us (Info@NorthEastMultiSport.com) and let us know if you’re planning to come, it would be greatly appreciated.

As for the uniform sizing kit, it still has not been sent out yet. I did get a call from Champion Systems (after I complained a little bit) and they told me they will be sending us the sizing kit ASAP and we are at the top of list to receive a sizing kit. At this point, I’m hoping that it will get sent out shortly and we will be able to do the sizing on March 3, but we’ll see. We will send out an update on this as soon as we get more information.

Lastly, I would like to congratulate NEMS member Nate Thomas for finishing 3rd overall in the open division of the BTT Indoor TT at Landry’s Bikes in Boston on Sunday, despite a very impressive field. There is some video from the event on the NEMS homepage if you’d like to see it. Way to go Nate!

That’s it for now. I hope to hear back from you soon and I look forward to seeing everyone on the 3rd.

Regards,

Colin Cook

NEMS and Nate Thomas with Great Showing at BTT Indoor TT at Landry’s Bike Boston Over the Weekend

On Sunday, February 20th, 5 NEMS members competed in the 2011 Boston Triathlon Team Indoor Time Trial at Landry’s Bikes in Boston.  While all 5 NEMS (Nate Thomas, Chad Quinlan, Nancy Espstein, Rob Kosman, and Colin Cook) competed hard, Nate Thomas highlighted the day by finishing 3rd overall in the Men’s Open division.  Nancy Epstein also had an excellent showing finishing 4th in the woman’s 35+ Masters division.  Here is some video from the competition:

Thanks to everyone that competed and great job!

Mid-February Club Update

Hello NEMS Members,

I hope everyone is doing well and is enjoying the off season. I just wanted to send out a quick message and give everyone a few updates about what we have been up since the last meeting and some events that will be coming up shortly.

We have been busy coordinating with Champion Systems on our clothing purchase. A sizing kit is being prepared and we’d like to have a “sizing meeting” as soon as possible after it arrives (we only have the kit for 7 days). Unfortunately, it hasn’t shipped yet, but I did speak with Champion at the end of last week and they expect that it will be shipped out sometime this week. This does make it tough for us to nail down an exact date and time for the meeting. However, we will keep you posted on this and the gathering will also serve as our February club meeting.

Once we set up the meeting, if you have a conflict, contact Jay or I and we’ll make other arrangements for you to test fit clothing.

If you haven’t seen the design for the uniforms and clothing, please check out the forums. Jay has been spending a lot of time on the design and we are very grateful for his efforts. I really like all the designs we have come up with, but please let us know if you have any recommendations for us.

We have also secured a new sponsor! Goodale’s bike shop has decided to become a bronze level sponsor. This does include a 10% discount for all our members on parts and accessories at any of their locations. They do require that you show them a club identification card to receive this discount, but we should have those created soon. While we’re on this topic, please let us know if you know of companies that would be interested in sponsoring us. We would be more than happy to contact them. However, you can print out or send them the Advertising brochure if you would like.

Lastly, we are hoping to offer a swim video analysis session to all members sometime soon. I am still in the process of securing a pool (most likely the Nashua YMCA Pool), but Bill Steele, a USA Swimming/Triathlon coach with a very advanced 4 camera system has offered to film us at no charge. I will provide everyone with more details on this as soon as I can, but I am very excited about this opportunity for us.

That’s it for now. I hope everyone is getting some training in and is looking forward to the upcoming season. We will be emailing you again shortly with more information about the sizing meeting.

Regards,

Colin Cook
NEMS President

Club Newsletter

Thanks to everyone who came to the meeting on Tuesday. Colin sent out an email newsletter to all current members. If you are a member and did not receive the newsletter, please let us know.
